Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Dorothy, Inc. ("Dorothy", "we", "us"), which runs Best Public Adjuster at bestpublicadjuster.org (the "Site"), collects, uses and shares information about you. It works together with our Terms of Service.

The short version

We collect what you type into our forms, any document you upload, and basic technical data.
We use it to match you with licensed public adjusting firms and to run the Site.
We share your request with no more than five licensed firms matched to your claim, and with the service providers that help us run the Site.
We do not sell your personal information, and we don't use it for advertising.
You can ask us to see, correct or delete your information at any time by emailing contact@hidorothy.com.

Information we collect

When you ask to be matched with a public adjuster, we collect:

your name, phone number and email
the property's ZIP code and state, the type of property and roughly how much damage there is
details about your claim, such as what happened, whether you've filed a claim, your insurance company, your claim number and any notes you add
any document you upload, such as a settlement offer from your insurer
the firm you asked for, if you started from a firm's page
a record of your permission to be contacted: the wording you agreed to and when

When a firm uses our claim-your-listing form, we collect the person's name, role, work email, phone, adjuster license number if given, and the changes they ask for.

Automatically, when you use the Site, our hosting provider receives basic technical data such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you visit. Our form service uses this data to block spam, and we keep it with your request as part of the record of your permission.

We don't use advertising cookies or tracking pixels. The Site doesn't currently use an analytics service. If we add one, we'll update this policy first.

How we use your information

To match you with licensed public adjusting firms and pass your request to them
To contact you about your request
To keep a record of your permission to be contacted
To verify firms that ask to claim or change their listing
To keep the Site secure and prevent spam and misuse
To meet legal obligations and enforce our Terms

With licensed public adjusting firms. We share your matching request, including any document you upload, with no more than five firms licensed in your property's state, as described in our Terms of Service. Each firm may use it only to respond to your request.
With service providers that help us run the Site, who may use it only to provide their services to us:
Netlify, which hosts the Site and receives and stores form submissions and uploads
Slack, which we use to alert our team to new requests
Resend, which sends email on our behalf
Google, which provides the ratings and reviews on firm pages and the fonts the Site uses
When the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety and property of our users, the firms, Dorothy or others.
If our business changes, for example in a merger or sale, your information may transfer to the new owner, who must keep honoring this policy.

We do not sell your personal information, and we don't share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Google Maps content

Firm pages can show ratings and reviews from Google Maps. When you scroll to that section, your browser loads the content directly from Google, and Google receives information such as your IP address. Google's use of that information is governed by the Google Privacy Policy ↗. We don't receive or store the reviews or any information Google collects.

How long we keep information

We keep your request, including any document you upload, only as long as we need it to handle your request, keep a record of your permission, and meet legal obligations. Then we delete it. You can ask us to delete it sooner. Firms that received your request keep their own copy under their own policies, and you can ask them directly to delete it.

Your choices and rights

Access, correction and deletion. Email contact@hidorothy.com to ask for a copy of your information, to correct it, or to delete it. We may need to confirm your identity first.
Texts and calls. Reply STOP to any text to opt out of texts, and tell any firm that contacts you to stop. To withdraw your request entirely, email us.
State privacy rights. Depending on where you live, such as California, you may have additional rights over your personal information. You can use them by emailing us, and we won't treat you differently for doing so.

Security

We protect information with access controls and encrypted connections. Uploaded documents are kept in private storage that only our systems can read. No method of storing or sending information is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.

Children

The Site is meant for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has sent us information, email us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
